The Number One Social Media App for Teenagers
The popularity of social media often changes. Especially when it comes to teenagers. They are the first to pick up original trends and spread them.
New research can advise marketers on which social networks they can search for the desired target audience. According to the Pew Research Center, the most popular apps among young Americans are TikTok and YouTube. The research center surveyed people between the ages of 13 and 17.
The results demonstrated that Facebook is rapidly losing popularity among the younger generation. While in 2015, the audience of teenagers was 71% of the total number of users, in 2022 this figure dropped to 32%.
Facebook is in fifth place in the rating of the most popular social networks. Twitter, Twitch, WhatsApp, Reddit, and Tumblr have lower scores.
Instagram came in fourth place in the rating. The research indicated that only 10% of users use it regularly. Moreover, girls open the application more often than boys.
Snapchat came in third place, with a small gap from Instagram. Like Instagram, this application is used more by girls.
In second place is TikTok with an index of 67%. However, among those who are registered on TikTok, only 16% of teens use it regularly. In any case, this figure is higher than the competitor's one.
First place went to YouTube with a rate of 95% of users. Of those, 19% watch videos on the platform regularly. The rest open YouTube at most once a day, a week or less.
Analysis of the overall activity of American teenagers in social networks shows that about 8% of people in the age category of 13-17 years old use networks rarely. The number of teens who believe they spend an optimal amount of time on social media is 55%. And 36% of young people say that they can't imagine their life without TikTok and other applications, so they spend quite a lot of time there.
