Scooby-Doo Comes to Life: Netflix Sets Sights on New Live-Action Series

A new live-action series centered on Scooby-Doo is currently being developed by Netflix. Mystery Inc. is about to be revitalized in a fresh live-action format as Netflix has unveiled its intentions for a new Scooby-Doo television series. Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg, known for their joint effort on the live-action anime project Cowboy Bebop for the same streaming service, are tasked with penning the episodes, drawing from the original concepts and narratives created by Hanna-Barbera.

Greg Berlanti, renowned for his role in the creation of The CW's Arrowverse, is on board to executive produce the venture for Warner Bros. Television, together with Berlanti Productions' Sarah Schechter, Jonathan Gabay, and Leigh London Redman. André Nemec and Jeff Pinkner are also set to executive produce under their Midnight Radio label.

Deadline reports that the series' approval was influenced by the success of The Sandman offshoot Dead Boy Detectives, a collaboration between Berlanti Productions and WBTV. This partnership has previously engaged with Netflix on projects like the thrilling series You, led by Penn Badgley, and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.

The Scooby-Doo universe, conceived by Joe Ruby and Ken Spears, made its debut in 1969 with the animated series Scooby-Doo! Where are You! It chronicles the adventures of the resilient youths Fred Jones, Velma Dinkley, Daphne Blake, Shaggy Rogers, and their articulate Great Dane, Scooby-Doo, as they maneuver in their distinctive vibrant van to unravel various mysterious cases with supernatural elements.

Over the years, this franchise has given rise to numerous films, including two notable live-action movies penned by James Gunn of Guardians of the Galaxy fame, and the animated feature Scoob! Its most recent television adaptation was launched just last year, with HBO Max's Velma.
