Remedy Entertainment Begins to Forge an Interconnected Universe Across its Iconic Titles
31-12-2024
Remedy Entertainment has embarked on an intriguing journey to weave together its unique titles into a cohesive universe, connecting Alan Wake 2 with Control. Studio leader Sam Lake emphasizes that this narrative web is only just beginning, and there are no plans for a concluding chapter at this time.
The studio has always included hidden references and subtle nods to other narratives throughout its diverse game lineup, which spans from Max Payne to Alan Wake and Quantum Break to Control. However, the connections were firmly established as a part of the official storyline in Control's AWE DLC. This DLC can be interpreted in two ways: either as an Alan Wake Expansion or an Altered World Event, depending on who you ask. Last year's fantastic Alan Wake 2 further developed this intertwined narrative, even unofficially connecting it to Max Payne and Quantum Break, which are possessed by Rockstar Games and Xbox, respectively.
When questioned about the possibility of an overarching conclusion similar to that of blockbusters, Lake indicated that the studio is still laying the groundwork and it's premature to discuss any potential endgame scenarios.
Lake expressed his enthusiasm for connecting these stories, stating that it allows for a deeper exploration of the lore. He mentioned that each game is crafted to be engaging on its own, yet there is a desire to enrich it for long-time fans who have followed other Remedy titles. The aim is to provide ample content for players seeking to delve into the ongoing narrative of this universe.
Moreover, he noted that newcomers can easily step into any of their games and hopefully explore older titles to further immerse themselves in the overall story.
Looking ahead, Remedy plans to continue exploring this interconnected world through their first cooperative shooter, FBC: Firebreak, set to debut next year, as well as the highly anticipated sequel Control 2. Fans may also look forward to the reimagined versions of Max Payne 1 and 2 developed in partnership with Rockstar Games.
