Many users report that several Android app are crashing for no visible reason. The problem is especially severe for Samsung owners. It’s already clear that the problem is cause by the Android System Webview system module which is responsible for displaying of web content in the apps. Due to the issues in the component, web-based applications like Gmail are crashing. Google has already confirmed the problem and promised to solve it as soon as possible.

While Google is solving the problem, you can fix the issue on your own Android device by removing the latest WebView update. This fix was suggested by the official Samsung support team on Twitter. Here’s a quick instruction on how to do it:

  • Go to Settings, tap apps, and then tap the 3-dot button in the top right.
  • Tap ‘Show system apps.’
  • Enter ‘Android System WebView’ in the search.
  • Tap ‘Uninstall updates’

Once Google reports that the problem is fixed, make sure to update to the latest version of the component. For the apps that don’t accept the fix, delete Android System WebView from the Play Store app. Did the fix work for you? Which apps were crashing on your device? Tell others about the problem and share the guide with other Android users.
