Goodbye, Cortana! Microsoft Shuts Down the App

31-03-2021

Sad news for all Cortana fans out there! Microsoft has recently discontinued the mobile version of the voice assistant and eliminated the app for Android devices as well. Additionally, the developer removed support of all third-party extensions. The reason for the shutdown is that the total user base was too low to keep maintaining the project.

The shutdown wasn’t unexpected, though. Microsoft announced it in July 2020 while presenting its plans to implement a "transformational AI-powered assistant experience" in the Microsoft 365 suite of apps. It means that Cortana didn’t die but evolved into a new type of voice assistant. Now you can access it as an improved AI module in Outlook, Exchange, Teams, and other apps.

If you are an owner of Harman Kardon Invoke speakers, you should follow the transition instructions published by the Microsoft support team. Cortana support is over for these speakers, but you will get the solution along with a $50 gift card for each speaker you have. How do you feel about the end of Cortana on mobile? Did you wish the app to stay functioning? Please, share the article with other Android users and join the chat in the comments section below the piece. Stay tuned!
